How to play Fashiondle
The complete guide · rules, clues, scoring and tips
In one line: every day Fashiondle hides one fashion house. You have six guesses to name it, the coloured tiles tell you which letters you got right, and a new clue unlocks after every guess.
The daily puzzle
There is one Daily puzzle per day, and everyone in the world gets the same house. It changes at midnight in your own time zone, so you can play it whenever you like during your day. The answer always comes from a hand-picked list of 159 houses, each with its own clues and a fact you learn when you solve it.
Each Daily has an edition number, like a magazine: the first puzzle on 1 January 2026 was No. 001. If you want a different house without waiting, switch to Practice (more below).
Making a guess
- One tile per letter. The board tells you how long the name is before you type anything. Answers are between 4 and 12 letters.
- Gaps show separate words. A two-word house such as Rick Owens appears as four tiles, a small gap, then five tiles. You can turn the gaps off in Settings for an extra challenge.
- Spaces, accents and punctuation are dropped. Hermès is typed HERMES and Dolce & Gabbana is DOLCEGABBANA.
- Every guess must be a real brand of the right length. Fashiondle accepts 771 brands and well-known nicknames, from luxury houses to streetwear and cult labels. Random letters are not allowed, so every guess is a real attempt.
What the colours mean
Green: the letter is in the name and in the right spot.
Gold: the letter is in the name, but somewhere else.
Grey: the letter is not in the name at all.
Repeated letters are counted fairly. If you guess a word with two E's and the answer has only one, only one of your E's lights up. The on-screen keyboard keeps track too, colouring every key you have already tried.
Find colours hard to tell apart? Turn on High-contrast colours in Settings for orange and blue tiles instead.
Clues from the archive
Fashion knowledge matters as much as spelling. You always start with the house's category (for example Luxury house, Streetwear, Japanese designer or Avant-garde). Then each guess you make unlocks one more clue, in this order:
- Origin: the city and country the house comes from.
- Founded: the year it was established.
- Signature: the piece it is best known for.
- Founder: the person (or people) behind it.
By your fifth look you have every clue on the table, and one guess left to use them.
The weekly calendar
Fashiondle gets harder as the week goes on, so there is something for casual fans and for the truly obsessed.
| Monday – Wednesday | Iconic | Household names |
|---|---|---|
| Thursday – Saturday | Insider | Fashion-week regulars |
| Sunday | Archive | Deep cuts for the obsessed |
Winning, losing and your streak
Solve it within six guesses and the house is revealed on a woven garment label, together with a short Did you know? fact. Run out of guesses and the answer is shown anyway, so you always learn something.
Your statistics track games played, win percentage, your current and best streak of Daily wins in a row, and how many guesses your wins usually take. Everything is saved on your own device. No account is needed.
Press Share result to copy a spoiler-free summary of your game: the edition number, your score and a grid of coloured squares, with no letters, so friends can see how you did without learning the answer.
Practice mode
Practice gives you unlimited extra rounds that don't affect your Daily stats. Choose a difficulty from the menu: Mixed, Iconic, Insider or Archive, or All to include every answerable brand in the game, not only the hand-picked houses. Press New ↻ for another brand at any time.
Settings
- Appearance: follow your device, or pick paper (light) or noir (dark).
- Hard mode: every hint you reveal must be used in later guesses (greens stay in place, golds must be included), and each clue unlocks one guess later. Your score gets an asterisk when you share it.
- Word gaps: show or hide the spaces between words in multi-word names.
- Sound: soft key clicks and tile flips (off by default).
- High-contrast colours: orange and blue instead of green and gold.
Playing with friends on Discord
Fashiondle also runs inside Discord. Add the app to your server, then type /fashiondle in any channel (or open it from the Activities menu) to play. When you finish the Daily, your grid and score are added to a results card in that channel, and the best score of the day gets the crown. A short recap the next day keeps your server's group streak going. Type /help in Discord for a reminder of the rules.
Tips from regular players
- Count the tiles first. The length and the word gaps rule out most of the fashion world before you type a letter.
- Read the category. A Japanese designer and a Luxury house live in very different parts of the archive.
- Open with common letters. Names rich in A, E, I, O, N, R and S (Celine, Lanvin, Marni) tell you a lot early on.
- Use the clues before the letters. By look three you know the city and the founding year. Ask yourself which houses fit before hunting for letters.
- Sundays go deep. Archive day favours designers' own labels and cult brands. Think of the names fashion-week regulars mention, not the ones on every high street.
Frequently asked questions
When does the next puzzle start?
At midnight in your local time. The result screen shows a countdown to the next edition.
Can I play past puzzles?
The Daily can only be played on its day, but every past answer, with its clues and fact, is listed in the Fashiondle archive. For more rounds right now, use Practice.
Why was my guess rejected?
Either it is not a brand Fashiondle knows, or it has the wrong number of letters. Try the house's full name without spaces or accents, or a well-known short form.
Is Fashiondle free?
Yes. There is no account, no subscription and no payment, on the web or in Discord.
Is Fashiondle affiliated with any fashion brand?
No. Fashiondle is an independent game. Brand names belong to their owners and are used only to identify the houses. The clues and facts are written for the game.
